Adamello Ultra Trail, a record edition:
Krautloher and Kmetova triumph in the 170km,
Affolati and Hilbert in the 100 km
A record edition
The eleventh edition of the Adamello Ultra Trail 2025 concluded on Sunday, September 28, in
Vezza d’Oglio (BS). The trail running event in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area once again garnered
widespread approval: despite the challenges posed by the weather, the organizers acted swiftly and decisively to modify the route for safety reasons, cutting some sections above 2,500 meters, and still managed to offer a thoroughly appreciated experience for all participants.
“It is not easy to forgo iconic sections like the Passo dei Contrabbandieri or the Bocchette di
Valmassa, among the most recognizable and iconic parts of our course,” commented the Adamello Ultra Trail A.S.D. Organizing Committee, “but the weather conditions did not allow us to safely cross certain elevations. The athletes understood and thanked us, appreciating once again the great work behind the scenes.”
In terms of numbers, the eleventh edition set all new records established just twelve months ago. Over 1,000 athletes, including more than 200 women, from 34 countries (with Germany, Great Britain, and the Czech Republic being the most represented), competed on the Great War trails between the Adamello and Stelvio Parks.
“The new records tell us that we are heading in the right direction organizationally, and that our mountains are increasingly known and appreciated. If we add the numbers from the Adamello
Vertical Kilometer and the Adamello Trail Junior, we are approaching 1,300 participants. These
results are not random, but the result of small improvements year after year: the Adamello Series opened to international athletes for the first time, with participants from Japan, Germany, Slovenia, Russia, and Ireland, and our affiliation with the TORX® eXperience circuit has given us further appeal in the global trail running scene. A big thank you to all the participants, volunteers, sponsors, and institutions for their support: see you next year!” added the organization.
Krautloher and Kmetova on the top of the AUT170 podium
After the pairing of Ficek (Poland) and Bodnar (Ukraine) in 2024, the Adamello Ultra Trail 170
km confirms its status as a conquest ground for international athletes. The winner of the main event in the Pontedilegno-Tonale area were German Simon Krautloher and Slovak Kristina
Kmetova. A sign of the growing international vocation of the event, the men's top-10 includes six foreign athletes: one Dutch, one Romanian, two French, and two Germans.
Germany made its mark: with 33 athletes at the start (the second-largest contingent after Italy), it claimed the top spot with Krautloher, in his second appearance on the trails of Alta Val Camonica and Alta Val di Sole after finishing 7th in 2024. On a shortened course due to safety reasons—154 km and 9,500 meters of positive elevation—the 31-year-old Bavarian finished in 22h27'36'' dominating the race.
"An incredible emotion in a fantastic race," commented Krautloher at the finish line. "I fell in love with this event in 2024 when I ran the 100km. I decided to come back to take on the 170 km because I realized I felt more comfortable with the longer distances. I paced myself calmly until km 105, then decided to push, and it went well. Thanks to the organization for such a beautiful race, with great aid stations and fantastic people."
Behind him, Daniele Nava made a remarkable comeback: the athlete from Valtellina, fresh from a top-10 finish at the Tor des Géants (330 km), finished in 23h34'35''. For the athlete from Tirano, this is yet another prestigious result at the #AUT, where he already has a win and two second-place finishes. The third step of the podium was taken by the French Fabien Piquerez in 23h58'16''.
Affolati and Hilbert win the AUT100
It was an exciting opening day for Adamello Ultra Trail 2025. The trail running event in the
Pontedilegno-Tonale area kicked off, September 26, with the starts from the headquarters in Vezza d’Oglio (BS) for the 60 km, 100 km, and 170 km distances (modified due to bad weather to become 58 km, 85 km, and 154 km).
On the 85 km and 5,000 m of elevation, it was the Veneto region that dominated, with Alessandro Affolati and Simone Vigolo from Vicenza in first and second place. Affolati, managing the difficult task of improving last year’s second place, stopped the clock at 9h18'01'', against 9:29:41 for Vigolo. South Tyrolean Ivan Favretto finished in third place with 09:45:47, marking his best result on the trails of Adamello Ultra Trail, improving on his fifth-place finish from 2024.
The three fought hard throughout the race, often running side by side and keeping a close eye on
each other along the course, with both the start and finish at the Vezza d’Oglio Event Center. After a difficult moment just before the halfway point, when Favretto seemed to be pulling away, Affolati and Vigolo recovered in the second part of the race, taking the top two spots on the podium.
A prestigious victory also in the 100 km women's race, with German Beliana Hilbert taking her second win in 10:54:47. Behind her were the Dematteis sisters, Luisa and Erica, who arrived
together at the finish line in 11:14:47. The two athletes from Cuneo set a fast pace from the start, especially on the uphill sections. After the first visual contact at km 37 at Rifugio Valmalza,Hilbert slowly regained ground and overtook the Dematteis: the decisive sprint came 20 km from the finish line, when the German managed to open up a significant gap.
