Simone Corsini returns to defend his title at the GTC100, while Lisa Borzani aims for her fourth victory. The battle is open in the GTC55 and GTC30 as well, with many top-level names on the start list.

All roads lead to Courmayeur. From Friday, July 11 to Sunday, July 13, 2025, nearly 2,000 athletes from 64 nations around the world will gather at the foot of Mont Blanc to race along the most technical and scenic trails in the Aosta Valley. The three distances – 100, 55, and 30 kilometers – will test their endurance in a head-to-head competition not only with their opponents, but also against time, fatigue, and the elements. A race within the race, featuring some of the world’s best trail runners battling for a spot on the podium.

At the GTC100, Simone Corsini targets a triple win, Lisa Borzani eyes her fourth

The flagship race, the GTC100, will start at 10:00 PM from Piazza Abbé Henry, in the center of Courmayeur. With a positive elevation gain of 7,400 meters, the course stretches for about 100 kilometers through Courmayeur, Pré-Saint-Didier, and La Thuile, reaching elevations over 2,800 meters, with challenging and scenic sections such as Colle di Youlaz, Mont Fortin, and Lago Combal. The winner is expected to arrive by lunchtime the following day at Parco Bollino, the heart of the Mont Blanc Trail Fest Village.

Among the most anticipated athletes, and those with the highest ITRA Performance Index, is of course Simone Corsini, winner in 2023 and 2024. He will face competition from Giulio Ornati (2nd at TOR130 – Tot Dret 2024) and Erland Eldrup, a young Norwegian making his debut in the Aosta Valley. Other names to watch: Danilo Lantermino (3rd at TOR330 – Tor des Géants 2019), Andrea Macchi (three-time GTC100 winner), Roberto Mastrotto and Martin Perrier (3rd at TOR330 – 2024), all with extensive experience in high-altitude technical races. The elite group also includes Alessio Vorti, Carlo Alberto Cirla, and South African Tiaan Erwee (winner of the Tor des Glaciers 2024).

In the women’s race, the favorite is once again Lisa Borzani, aiming for a historic fourth victory, after triumphs in 2019, 2023 and 2024. Challengers include Laure Pion (France), Corina Sommer (Switzerland), and Chiara Innocenti (Italy), with Natalia Roman, Anna Buckingham, and Christine Tousch also in contention.

GTC55: Spotlight on Gionata Cogliati and Giulia Marchesoni

The intermediate distance of the Gran Trail Courmayeur starts at dawn on Saturday, July 12, 2025. A technical and demanding route of 55 kilometers with 3,500 meters of elevation gain, passing through the wild Val Veny and Pré-Saint-Didier. Starting from Piazza Abbé Henry, athletes will finish in Parco Bollino, the site of the Mont Blanc Trail Fest Village. With a maximum time of 18 hours, runners will face challenging terrain around Mont Fortin, Col Chavanne, and Lago Combal before returning to Courmayeur.

Leading the field is Gionata Cogliati, recent TOR130 – Tot Dret winner, followed by Jacopo Troiano, Alessandro Macellaro (2nd in 2023), Mirko Marchi, Mattia Reggidori (GTC30 winner 2022, 3rd at TOR100 2024, 5th at TOR30 2023), and Mattia Barlocco. In the women’s field, all eyes are on Giulia Marchesoni, Margherita Vitali, and Germany’s Lena Glasbrenner.

Alessio Zambon and Maria Fuentes Olcina lead the GTC30 contenders

The last race to start – and the first to finish, around 11:45 AM – is the GTC30, with the start scheduled at 9:00 AM on July 12, 2025, from Piazza Abbé Henry. The 30-kilometer course, with 2,000 meters of elevation gain, runs along the panoramic trails of Val Ferret, touching iconic spots for trail running in the Aosta Valley.

The man to beat is Alessio Zambon, from Team La Sportiva, who dominated the 2024 GTC30, winning both male and female team rankings. Challengers include Simone Eydallin and Federico Magagna, with additional contenders such as Jacopo Gregori, Jacopo Valle, Alan Cherry, Alessandro Zani, and Lorenzo Murachelli.

In the women’s race, Maria Fuentes Olcina is the top favorite after multiple recent victories. Close behind are Fiona Porte (winner of Lavaredo Ultra Trail, 2nd at TDS 2023) and Italy’s Camilla Spagnol, a consistent competitor in alpine trail races. Also in the top group is Laura Barale, known for her experience and endurance on long-distance races.
